Bathing in Sutlej river and Bist Doab canal is prohibited

Nawanshahr - District Magistrate Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa has banned bathing in Sutlej river and Bist Doab canal within the district limits. This prohibition by the District Magistrate by using the powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act 2 of 1974), in view of the untoward incidents of bathers going into deep water and drowning at these two places.

In district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, various organizations and unions in connection with their demands, during the protest/demonstration, blocked the road on the main road and staged dharnas etc. Due to not getting the way for the ambulances carrying in In view of the distress caused to the patients and their heirs, District Magistrate Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa using the powers under Section 144 of Act 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (1974) within the limits of District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Any union/organization has issued orders to impose a complete ban on traffic jams in roads/intersections. According to the District Magistrate, places have been fixed in the three sub-divisions of the district for protest sit-ins, and no organization/union will be able to protest at these places without prior approval of the local administration.
Among these places are Dussehra Ground Nawanshahr in sub division Nawanshahr and about 40 kanal area of village Gujarpur Kalan under the jurisdiction of Nawanshahr Municipal Council, near railway gate Banga road Nawanshahr, panchayat area in Sub division Banga, Gram Panchayat village Poonia and Sub division Balachore. Municipal Playground (Near Civil Hospital) Jagatpur Road has been identified. After taking the approval at the designated places, it will be necessary to take the approval of the loudspeaker from the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
Any sit-in/disturbance of traffic at Chandigarh Chowk, Bus Stand Chowk and Nehru Gate at Nawanshahr is also prohibited. Along with this, a complete ban has been imposed on any such activity, dharna or playing of loud speakers in the tehsil complexes, SDM complexes and DAC complex of the district. According to the District Magistrate, there will be a ban on holding protests/demonstrations at any place/road other than the said designated places and strict action will be taken against the violators. These prohibitory orders will remain in force till June 21, 2024.
