Internet services have been suspended in several areas around the Patiala-Shambhu border and heavy police force has been deployed in nearby villages. A senior police officer confirmed that they have been instructed to stay in Shambhu. He said that ambulances and even riot control vehicles have been deployed in the area.
A police officer said that further orders are being awaited. “We were asked to report at specific places and we are waiting for further instructions,” said the SP-level officer. It is also not clear to us whether we have been deployed to disperse the protesters, or for some other reason.”
Tractors with towing hooks have been deployed near the police post at Shambhu. Meanwhile, farmers who were not part of the delegation that went to Chandigarh for talks with the Centre are gathering in the area. Additional forces have also been asked to be on alert near Banur, 15 km from Shambhu. Police are stopping vehicles near Banur and asking passengers where they are going.
