Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, October 3: Under the campaign "Every Friday, Strike Against Dengue," the District Health Department teams conducted inspections at various locations in the district today. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain and District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni stated that under the leadership of senior health officials, health workers, ASHA workers, and nursing college students checked containers to find larvae of the mosquito responsible for dengue fever and inspected other potential mosquito breeding sites. The people present at the sites were also provided detailed information about the symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment of dengue fever.
The inspection teams specifically included members of rural health sanitation committees and Residents’ Welfare Associations.
The Civil Surgeon mentioned that, as per the instructions of the Punjab Government, the "Every Friday, Strike Against Dengue" campaign is being actively implemented across the district. Along with officials, other staff members are conducting house-to-house surveys, and action is also being taken to issue challans. During the survey, containers, flowerpots, coolers, refrigerators, boxes, and other items are being inspected. Dr. Jain emphasized that the only effective way to prevent dengue is to ensure that water does not stagnate anywhere.
Dr. Jain further explained that the larvae of the mosquito that spreads dengue fever turn into dangerous mosquitoes within a few days, which can even be life-threatening. She noted that there is no specific season for dengue fever, but it is generally more prevalent from July to the end of November. The mosquito that spreads dengue bites during the day and breeds in clean water. Testing and treatment for dengue are available free of cost at government health institutions. Symptoms of Dengue Fever-
Dengue is a fever caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Common symptoms of dengue include severe headache and high fever, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, and in severe cases, bleeding from the nose, mouth, and gums, nausea, and vomiting.
