Inauguration of ‘Prof. Gurdial Singh Study and Heritage Centre’ (Library) at Professor Gurdial Singh Chair, Punjabi University, Patiala

Patiala, 28 August:- Today, under the able guidance of Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, the ‘Prof. Gurdial Singh Study and Heritage Centre’ (Library) was inaugurated at the Professor Gurdial Singh Chair, established in the name of Padma Shri and Jnanpith Awardee Professor Gurdial Singh. The event was presided over by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jagdeep Singh. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he stated that writers are the priceless treasure of the mother tongue, guiding human society through their writings from time to time.

The event was presided over by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jagdeep Singh. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he stated that writers are the priceless treasure of the mother tongue, guiding human society through their writings from time to time. 
He mentioned that the establishment of the ‘Prof. Gurdial Singh Study and Heritage Centre’ (Library) at the Professor Gurdial Singh Chair would greatly benefit researchers and students in the fields of language, literature, and cultural studies. He further added that remembering the works of great writers like Professor Gurdial Singh is a matter of pride for us.
At the beginning of the event, Dr. Rajwant Kaur ‘Punjabi,’ Coordinator of the Professor Gurdial Singh Chair, Head of the Punjabi Department, Coordinator of Punjabipedia Centre, and State Awardee, welcomed the large gathering of scholars, teachers, writers, researchers, and students. She expressed pride that during her tenure, inspired by the visionary Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh, a new chapter has been added to the history of Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Rajwant Kaur ‘Punjabi’ also elaborated on the objectives of establishing this new institution. Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, Dean of Academic Affairs at the University, stated that connecting the literary works of a great writer like Professor Gurdial Singh to economic and cultural aspects is even more significant.
The chief speaker of the event, Dr. Tarsem Sharma, Head of the Punjabi Department at D.A.V. College, Abohar, shared his memories and examples related to Professor Gurdial Singh, emphasizing that Punjabi University, Patiala, deserves congratulations for this initiative, as preserving the literary legacy of Professor Gurdial Singh is of utmost importance.
On this occasion, the University’s Registrar, Dr. Davinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Mamta Sharma, and Finance Officer, Dr. Pramod Agarwal, along with Dr. Amit Mittal, Head of Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha Library, extended their best wishes to the department for this constructive step. At the conclusion, Dr. Balwinder Kaur Sidhu, Dean of Languages, thanked the attendees and congratulated the Professor Gurdial Singh Chair for organizing this remarkable event.
