World Breastfeeding Week will be celebrated from 1st to 7th August in Una district - Narendra Kumar.

Una, 1st August- World Breastfeeding Week was inaugurated in all the Anganwadi centers of the district today (Friday) in Una district. 1364 Anganwadi workers, Asha workers and health workers in the district will make people aware about the benefits and importance of breastfeeding. District Program Officer (ICDS) Narendra Kumar informed that this public awareness campaign started from 1st August regarding the importance of breastfeeding in the district will continue till 7th August.

He said that the main objective of celebrating World Breastfeeding Week is to protect newborns from malnutrition and promote their mental and physical development. He said that breastfeeding is a natural, nutritious and immunity-rich diet for babies, which protects them from diarrhea, pneumonia and other infections.
At the same time, breastfeeding also has many benefits on the health of mothers. It reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer and type 2 diabetes. In emergency situations, breastfeeding becomes the safest, most accessible and readily available source of food for infants.
He said that this year's theme is 'Prioritize breastfeeding, create sustainable support systems' which aims to improve the health of mothers and infants. This theme also focuses on encouraging mothers to breastfeed and helping to protect the environment.
He said that breastfeeding is not only important for the health of the infant and mother, but also for the sustainability of society and the environment.
On this occasion, Anganwadi workers gave awareness messages to the people through poster making.
