Mohali, July 31: Doctors who give new life to people are given the status of God in our society, but nowadays some doctors running private hospitals do not care about people's lives for some money and in alleged collusion with big name hospitals and are tarnishing this business. One such case has come to light of the death of a child 10 days after birth in a famous hospital in Mohali.
During a press conference at Mohali Press Club here today, the victim Inderpreet Singh, resident of village Bhuchi, Post Office Dhunda District Fatehgarh Sahib, said that his family is a poor family and he runs the family by taking land on contract. He told that my wife Sandeep Kaur gave birth to a boy through operation in Shaili Hospital, Sirhind on June 22, 2025. During this time, after delivery, the health of both mother and child was confirmed by Dr. G.K. Shaili, Dr. Seema Shaili and Dr. J.D. Shaili.
He said that after about an hour, the above-mentioned team of doctors, citing the deterioration of the child's health, said that the child should be immediately referred to Max Hospital, Mohali. Due to which the family became suspicious of their attitude and we asked the doctors to refer the child to the government hospital Sector 32 or PGI Chandigarh. They did not listen to us and, by force, sent the child alone to Dr. Manu Sharma in Max Hospital, Mohali through an ambulance, while the child's parents were not even allowed to sit in the ambulance.
He further said that they kept collecting thousands of rupees from us by saying that the child's condition was worrisome and according to the doctors, the child's health was said to be healthy till July 1, 2025. He said that Max doctors also refused to let us meet the child and also said that you do not need to come to the hospital until we call you.
Max doctors also told us that the child is healthy and will be discharged in a day or two. But on July 1, 2025, we got a call from Max Hospital that clear your pending bill immediately because the child's medicines are being made expensive, because the child was kept on ventilator. But our family was devastated when the doctors declared our child dead on July 2, 2025 at 4 am and asked us to deposit three and a half lakh rupees immediately. Victim Inderpreet Singh said that the family suspects that our child was already dead, but the hospital kept procrastinating to allegedly collect huge money.
Inderpreet Singh further said that when he approached Dr. G.K., owner of Shaili Hospital, about the matter, he said that the child was already dead. When Shaili was informed about the child's death, she shrugged it off and said, "What can I do in this, I am not God, my own 30-year-old son died." This answer of Dr. Shaili shook the whole family and the family is in shock.

They demanded justice from Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Health Minister Balbir Singh, DGP Punjab, SSP and Civil Surgeon Mr. Fatehgarh Sahib and said that we should be given justice by taking legal action against Shaili Hospital and Max Hospital. They said that such private hospitals are playing with the lives of people for their own money, which should be reined in immediately.

Dr. G.K. Shaili of Shaili Hospital says:
When Dr. G.K. Shaili of Shaili Hospital (Mobile: 98143-20214) was talked to in connection with this matter, she said that I have 51 years of experience in medicine and I do not work by taking commission from anyone. He clearly said that the child was healthy at the time of birth but later due to difficulty in breathing, the parents sent the child to Max Hospital Mohali. Where the child was also hypertensive after birth due to the mother having hypertension. Due to which bleeding started in his lungs and the child was put on ventilator, after some time the child died.
When repeated attempts were made to talk to Dr. Manu Sharma of Max Hospital (Mobile: 98152-30209) regarding this matter, he did not pick up the phone.
