S.A.S. Nagar, June 13 - Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has written a warning letter to the Chief Administrator of Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) regarding the problem of disposal of hundreds of tons of garbage generated daily in Mohali. In this regard, the Deputy Mayor met GMADA Chief Administrator Vikas Sarangal and handed over the letter to him.
Through this letter, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has warned that if GMADA does not provide space to the Municipal Corporation to dump garbage in Mohali in the next 15 working days, then he will be forced to sit on a dharna in front of the office of the Chief Administrator of GMADA.
In the letter, Mr. Bedi has said that earlier the Municipal Corporation used to dump garbage in the dumping ground near Industrial Area Phase-8B, but due to court orders, this place has been closed for more than a year. As a result, garbage is piling up in various parts of the city and the pressure on the Municipal Corporation's RMC points is increasing. He described the situation as very bad, especially near Shahi Mazra and Jujhar Colony in Sector 77, and said that there is a serious problem of garbage in the entire city.
He said that in the area of ????Mohali Municipal Corporation, apart from the corporation, garbage is also coming from areas under GMADA, housing societies and Balongi. As a result, incidents of garbage fire have also taken place in some parts of the city, which is a serious warning for the environment.
In the letter, he said that GMADA has sold the city's property worth billions of rupees, but land is not being made available to meet the basic needs of Mohali. He wrote that the Municipal Corporation does not have any property of its own and all the land is under GMADA. He said that GMADA is not fulfilling its basic responsibility, while the Mohali Municipal Corporation and councillors are being defamed.
The Deputy Mayor said that in the meeting the Chief Administrator assured him that he would take immediate steps to resolve this problem after taking a report from the Chief Engineer.
