S.A.S. Nagar, June 13- Phase-1 residents Ravinder Singh, Ashwani, Satnam Singh, Sohan Lal, Sunil Sharma, Happy and Anu Sharma have written a letter to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner apprising him of the problems caused by unauthorised encroachments in Phase-1 market (SCO No. 13 to 36) and demanding a permanent solution to the same. The letter states that there is a densely populated residential area around the market. The public, including the elderly, women and children, have to come to this market for their work, and the main doors of the houses open towards the market. However, the unauthorised hawkers, permanent dhabas, and encroachments on verandas by shopkeepers have become a serious problem for the common people.
The letter further states that whenever the Tehsil Bazari Department comes to take action, some anti-social elements, influential people of the market and other persons forcefully unload the goods of the occupants loaded on trucks by the department, which is a legal offense.
The letter states that due to these illegal encroachments, people coming for work do not get parking space for their vehicles, due to which they park the vehicles in front of the houses in the residential area and on the main road. This makes it difficult for the residents of this area to even leave their homes. Due to the encroachments done by shopkeepers in the verandas, the residents do not get space to walk during strong sunlight or rain.
The letter mentions that suspicious people sit on unauthorized food carts, who carry out incidents of theft and robbery by doing recce, due to which such incidents are increasing in this area.
The letter states that there are no proper arrangements for cleanliness on the carts set up on the footpaths, and non-vegetarian food is sold there till late night, which is harmful for the health of the people. When residents ask them to remove or clean up, these people start fighting.
Residents have demanded that the area be immediately freed from unauthorized activities and encroachments in SCO Market, Mohali Phase-1.
