SAS Nagar, May 2 – Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has said that the sanitation crisis in the city has taken a serious shape, which needs to be resolved immediately, otherwise it will have very bad consequences. The Deputy Mayor has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner Mohali in this regard and demanded to ensure immediate and necessary action in this regard.
Mr. Bedi said that after the city’s dumping point was closed for more than a year, the waste management system is in a worse condition. In his letter to the Deputy Commissioner, he has said that the sanitation infrastructure in Mohali city has become very messed up. Due to the closure of the dumping ground, garbage is being collected only through RMC points and this action is proving to be insufficient.
He has written that not only the garbage from the Municipal Corporation area, but also the garbage coming from GMADA and private builders' societies is putting more pressure on the infrastructure of Mohali. Along with this, leaves are falling from trees at every corner, due to which there is a fear of smell and diseases due to rotting.
He has written that due to the incidents of leaf burning in Molly Point and Nature Park in the past, not only pollution has increased, but many trees in Nature Park have also burnt down. He demanded that new RMC points be set up in the new sectors in GMADA area and especially for the garbage generated from Balongi and private builders' societies on the other side, so that garbage can be managed properly in the city.
He demanded that the Deputy Commissioner take steps to make new places available as soon as possible in coordination with GMADA officials. He said, "This matter is not just about cleanliness, but is related to urban health and environment, in which delay can harm the health of the city residents and spread diseases. Therefore, immediate steps should be taken to solve this problem."
