New Delhi, April 27 - The National Investigation Agency has formally taken over the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack following the orders of the Union Home Ministry. In this terror attack on Tuesday, 26 people were brutally shot dead. NIA teams have been present at the site of the terror attack since Wednesday and the teams have intensified the search for evidence.
The teams, under the supervision of an IG, DIG and SP of the anti-terror agency, are questioning eyewitnesses who witnessed the horrific attack unfolding before their eyes in the peaceful and beautiful Basran Valley. The eyewitnesses are being questioned in detail to piece together the sequence of events that led to one of the worst terror attacks in Kashmir. NIA teams are closely monitoring the entry and exit points of the Basran Valley to track down the terrorists involved in the attack. The teams are conducting a thorough search of the entire area with the help of forensic and other experts to unravel the terror conspiracy that has shaken the entire country.
Before officially taking over the case, the NIA was assisting the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the investigation. The Army is conducting a search operation in the highlands of the Pir Panjal range to track down the suspected terrorists believed to be involved in the attack. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had released sketches of three suspected terrorists who are believed to be involved in the attacks. However, there is no clarity on their exact number and whether those whose sketches have been shared were actually involved in the attack.
