SAS Nagar, April 17-Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Sidhupur has demanded that the sale of banned varieties of paddy seeds be strictly banned. The union has given a memorandum to the Director of Agriculture Punjab in this regard, in which it has been said that the Punjab government has announced a few days ago that farmers should not sow Pusa 44 and hybrid varieties of paddy because then it will not be purchased.
The letter says that last year also the government had said something similar, but the dealers sold these seeds to the farmers and then the farmers faced a lot of trouble while selling the crop and the traders bought the crop by cutting the price from the farmers. The letter has demanded that the dealers of Punjab be strictly instructed not to sell banned seeds.
The letter states that fake DAP fertilizer was received in the cooperative societies last season and the fertilizer was found to be fake after the agriculture department filled the sample. The letter states that during this time, needy farmers bought some fertilizer and used it for their crops.
But due to the fakeness, the yield decreased due to the crop not being nourished properly. On the other hand, the price of fake fertilizer got stuck in the farmer's account. The letter demands that the money for the price of the fake fertilizer sold be deposited in the accounts of the farmers' cooperative societies so that the farmers do not default.
Union's State Press Secretary Mehar Singh Theri, Block President Rajpura Gurdev Singh Jandoli, Tarlochan Singh Nadiali, Ujagar Singh Dhamoli, Man Singh Rajpura were also present on the occasion.
