
SHO and ASI arrested by Vigilance Bureau for demanding bribe of Rs. 1,50,000
Chandigarh/Hoshiarpur- Punjab Vigilance Bureau in its drive against corruption in the state has arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Raman Kumar and his subordinate Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurdeep Singh posted at Police Station Bullowal in Hoshiarpur district for demanding bribe of Rs. 1,50,000.
Chandigarh/Hoshiarpur- Punjab Vigilance Bureau in its drive against corruption in the state has arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Raman Kumar and his subordinate Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurdeep Singh posted at Police Station Bullowal in Hoshiarpur district for demanding bribe of Rs. 1,50,000.
A spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said here today that the arrests were made following investigation of an online complaint lodged by a resident of village Asalpur in Hoshiarpur district on Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line.
The complainant alleged that an FIR under NDPS Act has been registered against his nephew in the said police station and the said policemen were threatening to implicate his son in a case under Section 29 of the NDPS Act. As per the complaint, the said ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs. 25,000.
A bribe of Rs. 1,50,000 was demanded by the SHO to get his son removed from the case, but after pleading by the complainant, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs. 25,000. 1 lakh. The complainant recorded the conversation between the two police personnel while demanding the bribe and submitted the audio as evidence to the Vigilance Bureau.
The spokesperson further informed that after investigating the complaint by the Vigilance Bureau Hoshiarpur unit and taking legal advice, a case has been registered against the two accused under Sections 7 and 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act, Section 61 (2) of BNS and Section 59 of NDPS Act at Jalandhar Range Police Station of Vigilance Bureau.
SSP Vigilance Bureau Jalandhar Range Harpreet Singh Mander informed that both the accused have been arrested and will be produced before the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation is underway in the case.
