Mansa, June 10 – A petition has been filed in Mansa court today by Balkaur Singh, father of late singer Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moosewala, seeking a stay on the screening of a documentary on his son. The documentary has been produced by a foreign broadcaster and is scheduled to be released tomorrow, June 11, on the occasion of Sidhu Moosewala’s birthday, in Juhu, Mumbai.
Sources associated with the family said that Balkaur Singh has completed all the legal process and has sought immediate relief from the court to stop the screening of the documentary.
Balkaur has already sent a legal notice to the foreign broadcaster and has also filed a formal complaint in this regard with the Maharashtra Police. They claim that the documentary titled ‘Investigative Documentary on Sidhu Moosewala’ contains unauthorized, sensitive and unpublished material, including personal testimonies and commentary on an ongoing criminal case.
They have argued that the screening may disrupt the investigation into Moosewala’s murder by inciting public unrest and is a violation of the family’s legal rights, including privacy and posthumous dignity.
However, the broadcaster’s legal team has sought 10 days to respond to the notice. Sidhu Moosewala was murdered on May 29, 2022, at Jawaharke village near Mansa. It is learnt that Moosewala’s family will release an extended play of his songs on Wednesday.
