
Neuroophthalmology : An intriguing amalgam of Neurology and Ophthalamology
PGIMER Chandigarh- The Department of Neurology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is organizing the third National Conference of Neuro-Ophthalmology 2025 (NCNO-2025) under the aegis of the PGI Neurological Society. The conference will take place from 7th to 9th February 2025 at the Bhargava Auditorium, PGIMER under the visionary leadership honourable Director, PGIMER, Prof. Vivek Lal, who is also the Head of Department, Neurology, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

The conference has been meticulously structured to cover all the major aspects of Neuro-Ophthalmology. The organising chairman, Prof Vivek Lal, Organizing Secretary, Dr. Aastha Takkar Kapila (Associate Professor, Neurology ) and Joint Organizing Secretary, Dr. Karthik Vinay Mahesh,( Assistant Professor, Neurology) have played an instrumental role in shaping a robust academic program that brings together clinical expertise, research advancements, and interactive learning sessions.
Neuro-ophthalmology is a fascinating field that brings together the specialties of medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. The conference is expected to welcome around 250 to 300 delegates and dignitaries from across the country and the globe.
The conference is designed to cater to both budding neurologists and experienced consultants. Day 1 will feature workshops on role of botulinum toxin in neuroophthalmology moderated by Dr Sahil Mehta, Basics of neuroradiology, moderated by Dr Paramjeet Singh who is Prof and head department of radiology and basic concepts of neuroophthalmology in adults and in pediatric age group.
This will also serves as a refresher course in neuroophthalmology for neurologists and ophthalmologists in training. Many dignitaries and doyens in neuroophthalmology from around the globe like Prof Kathleen Digre (USA), Prof Deborah Friedman (USA), Prof Fiona Costello ( Canada), Prof Aki Kawasaki ( Switzerland), Dr Hassan Hosny ( Egypt) and Dr Asuri Prasad ( Canada) are expected to participate in the event. The event also expects the presence of renowned neurologists and ophthalmologists from across the nation.
The high lights of the event are a dedicated CME on Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), a common condition among young, obese females and will cover vital causes of visual loss due to Neurological diseases like multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, vasculitis etc; headache disorders, tropical neuro-ophthalmology, and surgical neuro-ophthalmology.
The conference will also feature the Dr. Amod Gupta Best Case Presentation Award, honouring outstanding case presentations by young neurologists. This award celebrates the legacy of Dr. Amod Gupta, a pioneer in neuro-ophthalmology, and encourages young clinicians to excel in the field. The first NCNO-Oration is another new addition to the conference this year .
