Una, October 19 - Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Jatin Lal has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code with the objective of maintaining security and peace in Una district. This order has been implemented to control the anti-social elements coming to the district on the pretext of employment.
The District Magistrate said that many people come to Una without verification of their identity cards and work in small businesses and services, such as shawl sellers, hawkers, cobblers, utensil repairers, or as contract labour in various industries to earn their livelihood. Lack of information about their background and without verification often creates difficulty in preventing crime, which may pose a threat to public safety.
Along with this, there is also a possibility of anti-social elements disturbing the peace of the district in the guise of job seekers and causing harm to life and property of the public.
Therefore, verification of all migrant workers has been made mandatory for employment. No employer, contractor or trader shall engage migrant workers in any non-formal employment or contractual work without verification of their identity and passport size photograph with the concerned Station House Officer (SHO). Additionally, persons seeking self-employment or engaging in petty trades shall inform the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) of their intentions.
All religious places and premises where such persons take shelter have been directed to maintain their complete records. No person shall stay in these institutions without registering with the police. All sub-divisional police officers of Una district have been directed to keep a strict vigil on such persons and review these activities regularly. Violation of these directions will attract legal action against the concerned migrant workers and their employers under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023 (BNSS).
