Workshop on 'Protection from Sexual Harassment for Women at Workplace' by SLSA, UT Chandigarh

Shri Surinder Kumar, Member Secretary, State Legal Service Authority (SLSA), UT Chandigarh conducted a workshop on ‘Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ for the employees of Chandigarh Housing Board, in Sector-9, Chandigarh. Shri Surinder Kumar, Member Secretary, State Legal Service Authority (SLSA), UT Chandigarh conducted a workshop on ‘Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ for the employees of Chandigarh Housing Board, in Sector-9, Chandigarh. About 100 officials of CHB attended this workshop. The workshop covered topics like - Understanding Sexual Harassment- its Definitions, examples, and types of behavior that constitute harassment; Legal Framework; Understanding the Rights of employees and Responsibilities of employers ; Procedure for Reporting and Resolution; Creating a Safe Workplace Culture and zero tolerance for harassment. 
 While addressing the female employees, Sh. Kumar highlighted that the sexual harassment at workplace is the violation of the Fundamental Rights under Article 14, 21 of the Constitution. Until and unless the women come out and open, it will be difficult to bring in changes in attitudes. There are various challenges attached to it and the first step entails talking and writing the incident/complaint to the Complaints Committee. Cyber Crime has also opened a new way of sexual harassment which is a huge challenge. The Member Secretary pointed out the provisions under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita that cover crimes relating to women. He highlighted that the law be implemented in Letter & Spirit. The Complaints Committee should play an active and positive role in its implementation for safer work place for women. Sh.
