Hoshiarpur - Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Amandeep Kaur informed that according to the instructions of the honorable National Green Tribunal, there is a complete ban on plastic envelopes under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He said that in this regard, he along with the Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation and other officials made a surprise check at the Vegetable Mandi Rahimpur, it was found that there was a lot of dirt in many places inside the Vegetable Mandi and there were heaps of garbage in many places. A large quantity of plastic envelopes were found to be used by the rabble-rousers.
He said that on the occasion, the Secretary Market Committee and President Sabzi Mandi were called and they were shown the current state of cleanliness of the vegetable market and were strictly instructed to maintain complete cleanliness inside the vegetable market. And the dry waste should be segregated and the segregated waste should be given to the cleaning staff of the municipal corporation. The plastic envelopes being used by the mobs should be stopped immediately, and jute or cloth envelopes/bags should be used instead.
The instructions issued by Swachh Bharat Mission and Hon'ble National Green Tribunal regarding cleanliness/garbage should be strictly followed. He said that in case of non-compliance of the instructions, strict action will be taken and heavy penalty will also be imposed.
