
Red Cross organized an awareness camp regarding drug addiction at village Simbal Majara
Balachore - Red Cross De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center Nawanshahr organized a drug-free awareness camp at Government Senior Secondary Smart School Simbal Majara (Block-Blachore, SBS Nagar) under the "Drug-Free India Abhiyan". The program was chaired by Chandra Shekhar.

The program was chaired by Chandra Shekhar. Addressing the students, Sardar Chaman Singh Project Director said that drug addiction is now a major public health challenge worldwide. The complications of drug abuse by youth are serious. These include: chances of engaging in risky behavior, personality disorders, sexual violence, criminal tendencies and drug dependence. Many factors have been identified for drug abuse among youth. These include: experimental curiosity, peer pressure, poor socioeconomic status at home and needing extra energy for daily activities. Because the burden of drug abuse in our state is very high and its prevalence among the youth is quite high. Ms. Kamaljit Kaur Councilor said that awareness campaigns about the dangers of drug consumption should be intensified in various educational institutions. Social media and other mediums of communication are positively engaged in reaching the youth on this topic. Students' bags and belongings should be checked regularly by school teachers.
Dr. Sudesh Kumar, Medical Officer from Civil Hospital, Balachor said that drugs cause intense euphoria. They also produce a huge surge of dopamine. Big increases in dopamine "teach" the brain to take drugs at the expense of other, healthier goals and activities. This is how addiction is created. Arvinder Singh also expressed his views about drugs and its side effects. He thanked the Red Cross team. Who made the students aware about drugs and told how they can save themselves from this scourge. Jaskaran Singh moderated the program.
