Garhshankar - Central Punjabi Writers' Association (Sekhon) President Pawan Harchandpuri and Secretary General Professor Sandhu Varyanvi have written a letter to Chief Secretary Higher Education and Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala Kamal Kishore Yadav. That the computer department and some colleges related to the university should be investigated for violating the decisions made by the Academic Council of Punjabi University Patiala regarding the compulsory study of Punjabi.
In this letter Professor Sandhu Varyanvi has written that
According to the notification issued by Punjabi University Patiala on 21st July, 2023, in the meeting of Academic Council held on 07-07-2023, it was decided that:
"Punjabi will be taught as a compulsory subject even in the six semesters of the BCA (three-year degree course).
Its curriculum will be designed by the 'Board of Studies' of the Punjabi Department keeping in mind the new technologies, software and computer requirements and will be included in the Punjabi courses."
According to the information received, the Punjabi Department has prepared and sent the syllabus as per the order of the Academic Council, which is also available on the university website. But the computer department of the university has shown that the subject of Punjabi compulsory in the scheme of BCA course on the university website is applicable only in the first two semesters.
According to the decision of the Academic Council, it is compulsory to teach the subject of Punjabi in all the semesters of BCA. In this way, the decision of the Academic Council is being completely violated by the Department of Computer Science. He said that considering the seriousness of the matter, the concerned authorities/departments and colleges should be directed to ensure the compulsory study of Punjabi as per the decisions of the Academic Council. Professor Sandhu Varyanvi has also sent a copy of this letter to the Minister of Higher Education, Punjab-Secretary, Higher Education Punjab, Director, Language Department Punjab, President, Central Punjabi Writers' Association (Registered), President, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi Ludhiana. It is worth mentioning here that the people of Punjab have to struggle again and again to make Punjabi education compulsory in this university built in the name of Punjabi language. Last year, a long battle had to be fought to make these decisions. Who are now being sabotaged.
