Workshop on Clinical Expertise in Peritoneal Dialysis Held

Ambala, July 21: Park Healing Touch Hospital, Ambala, in collaboration with the Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India, successfully organized the 'PD Access Master Class 2026' workshop. The primary objective of the workshop was to foster clinical expertise and promote patient-friendly innovations regarding peritoneal dialysis access.
During the workshop, Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant Physician Dr. Jyoti Agarwal highlighted the growing importance of percutaneous PD catheter insertion performed under local anesthesia. This is a minimally invasive procedure that trained nephrologists can perform themselves.
She stated, "Dialysis patients often suffer from multiple comorbidities, which can increase risks during procedures requiring general anesthesia. For most such patients, the percutaneous approach offers a less invasive option, potentially enhancing patient comfort and facilitating the timely initiation of peritoneal dialysis."
At the workshop, PD catheters were successfully inserted in two patients using the percutaneous method—a significant milestone in advancing procedural training and clinical practice for peritoneal dialysis access.
The workshop brought medical professionals and experts together on a single platform with the shared goal of promoting advanced PD catheter insertion techniques and strengthening skills. The event provided participants with valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the clinical application of percutaneous PD access techniques.
Dr. Saurabh Nayak, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology at AIIMS, Bathinda, also participated in the workshop.
