Whispers Begin Among Leaders Demanding a Local Candidate for Nawanshahr Assembly

Nawanshahr, 11 February:- An important media interaction was held by senior Akali leaders and workers of Nawanshahr regarding the strengthening of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections. On this occasion, the assembled leaders strongly demanded before the party high command that instead of fielding an outsider candidate for the Nawanshahr Assembly constituency, a local leader from within the constituency should be nominated as the candidate.
Addressing the journalists, senior Akali leader Raman Deep Singh Thiyara, Doaba Zone President Bhupinder Pal Singh Jaddla, and co-constituency in-charge Tara Singh Sekhupur jointly stated that the candidates who had earlier contested elections on behalf of the party were also capable, but being outsiders, workers had to face considerable difficulties after the elections. They said that if an outsider candidate lost the election, workers had to travel to distant places even to share their grievances and problems, which adversely affected the organizational structure of the party.
The Akali leaders argued that a candidate chosen from within the Nawanshahr constituency understands the problems of the local people and the geographical conditions of the area more intricately. They said that a local candidate remains accessible to the people 24 hours a day. The leaders assured that if the party places its bet on a local face, the entire leadership and workers of the constituency will work day and night to ensure his victory.
During this, the leaders also stated that currently in Punjab, the atmosphere is in favor of the Akali Dal and the party is moving towards forming the government again. They demanded that an in-charge for the Nawanshahr constituency be appointed soon so that election activities can be intensified further. In this regard, they will soon meet Party President Sukhbir Singh Badal to make him aware of their sentiments.
On this occasion, besides others, Bitta Sabharwal, Amrik Singh Sekhupur, Kuldeep Ram Meeta, Gurdeep Singh Nona, Kapil Kripal, Kuldeep Singh Kariyam, Shamsher Singh Jaddla, Gurcharan Singh Bharta, Mohan Singh Mehdipur, Gurcharan Singh Ghakkeval, Amrik Singh, Amarjit Singh and Mani Dupalpur, along with a large number of workers and leaders, were present.
