Village Development Through Nutrition and Sanitation Dr Chauhan

Nilokheri/Karnal, December 30: The foundation of a healthy society can only be laid with nutritious food, a clean environment, and aware citizens. This was stated by Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Rural Development Institute. He was addressing participants in a three-day program on the topic of "Food, Nutrition, Health, and Sanitation" being held at the institute.
The program was conducted by Sushil Mehta, a faculty member and program coordinator of the institute. Presenting the training outline, he explained that food, nutrition, and sanitation are deeply interconnected subjects, and a healthy society cannot be imagined without them.
Dr. Chauhan said that the real progress of rural India is possible only when food is not limited to merely filling the stomach but is also linked to nutrition and health.
Dr. Virendra Singh Chauhan said that sanitation comes not only through government schemes but also through public participation and behavioral change. He appealed to the participants not to limit the knowledge gained during the training to papers only, but to implement it in their respective areas and create awareness among the rural community. He said that nutrition, health, and sanitation are complementary to each other, and a strong, self-reliant, and healthy rural India can be built only through a balance of these three.
Dr. Chauhan said that today, there is a need to adopt food not only on the basis of taste and quantity but also on the basis of nutritional value. He said that malnutrition is not only a health problem but also a major obstacle to social and economic development. If rural families become aware of nutrition, sanitation, and health, then many diseases can be prevented automatically.
He urged the trainees to set an example themselves and spread the message of sanitation, balanced diet, and a healthy lifestyle to every village; only then will the training prove meaningful. Coordinator Ashish Singh from the National Institute of Rural Development and other participants were also present on the occasion.
