Veterinary University organized Blue Ravi Milking Competition and Farmers Fair
Ludhiana 19th December 2025:- Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized Blue Ravi Milking Competition and Farmers' Fair at Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Regional Research and Training Centre on Buffaloes, Booh.
Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, S. Dilbagh Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Market Committee, Harike, and Sardar Diljit Singh Gill, President, PDFA Punjab graced the prize distribution ceremony of the event. The event was organized to promote Blue Ravi breed improvement among farmers.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director Extension Education welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the role of the Veterinary University towards the welfare of animal husbandry in Punjab. The objective of this competition was to identify high milk yielding Blue Ravi buffaloes in Punjab and to motivate breeders. The buffalo of S. Gurlal Singh of village Jamalpur, Tarn Taran, which had a milk yield of 25.298 kg, won the first prize.
The second, third, fourth and fifth prizes were awarded to the buffaloes of Sardar Lakhvir Singh of village Kohara, Ludhiana (20.665 kg), S. Bachittar Singh of village Cheema Kalan, Tarn Taran (20.184 kg), Sardar Amrik Singh of village Pitho, Bathinda (19.868 kg) and Shri Gurmimran Singh of village Cheema Kalan, Tarn Taran (18.950 kg) respectively. Cash prizes of Rs. 51,000/-, Rs. 31,000/-, Rs. 21,000/- and Rs. 5,100/- were given for the first, second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Dr. Gill emphasized that such competitions are very important for the identification and conservation of superior breeds. Sardar Dilbagh Singh Sandhu congratulated the Veterinary University for organizing this important event in a smooth and transparent manner and assured full support of the local farmers. Dr. Grewal congratulated the winners and informed that more competitions will be organized in future.
PDFA President Sardar Diljit Singh Gill announced equal cash prizes for the first three positions on behalf of his association. Dr. Prabjit Singh, Deputy Director, KVK shared the vote of thanks.
