University Striving to Promote Neglected yet Significant Literary Forms Dr Rattan Singh
Patiala:- During a function organized jointly by Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, and Sahitya Akademi, Delhi, at the university's main office in Patiala, a mini-story anthology titled 'Katha Kaniyan', edited by Assistant Professor of the Punjabi Department, Dr. Sarvarinder Singh, was released.
The book release ceremony was performed by the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rattan Singh, President of Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi Dr. Manmohan, Registrar Dr. Baljit Singh Khaira, Director CEE Dr. Kuldeep Walia, Head of the Punjabi Department at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Dr. Manjinder Singh, Chairperson of the Punjabi Department at Kurukshetra University, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, along with Dr. Mohan Tyagi from Punjabi University Patiala, Dr. Parveen Kumar from Panjab University Chandigarh, Dr. Amarjit Singh and Dr. Dharmendra Singh from the Punjabi Department, Dr. Jagjit Singh from the Publication Bureau, and Jagdish Rai Kulrian, editor of a mini-magazine.
This book has been published by the university's own Publication Bureau. The volume features works by 71 Punjabi mini-story writers and includes an article exploring the history of the genre.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rattan Singh stated that while the university is tirelessly working to spread the light of education in rural and educationally backward areas of Punjab, it is also committed to bringing forward significant and relevant literary forms that have remained on the margins or have been largely ignored. This edited anthology, 'Katha Kaniyan', is a step in that direction.
Various speakers shared their views on the book and congratulated Dr. Sarvarinder Singh. The event was attended by a large number of writers and readers, including Dr. Amarjit Kaunke, Avtarjit, Bir Inder Banbhauri, Davinder Patialvi, Navdeep Mundi, Gursevak Singh Rorki, Buta Singh Sirsiwala, Amritpal Shaida, Balwinder Singh Bhatti, Satnam Chauhan, Joga Singh Dhanaula, and Ripanjit Soni Bagga. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Amarjit Singh.
