Una District Under Watchful CCTV Eyes Law and Order Gets a Boost

Una, July 24: Modern cameras now keep a round-the-clock watch over the roads, markets, major intersections, and public spaces of Una. To enhance law and order, maintain strict vigilance against crime, and strengthen road safety, the district administration has significantly bolstered the district's technology-based surveillance system. This modern setup was developed under the 'Samarthya' program—initiated by Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal—through the collaborative efforts of the District Red Cross Society and the CSR contributions of various industrial units.
In light of growing security challenges, the district's modern surveillance system has been rapidly expanded. Integrating public spaces and sensitive areas into a CCTV network is assisting the police in effectively monitoring suspicious activities, gathering prompt information about incidents, securing evidence for investigations, and preventing crimes. This has also strengthened the overall sense of security in public areas.
More than ?12.50 crore has been spent under the 'Samarthya' program to develop this modern surveillance system in the district. Additionally, the system has been expanded through the convergence of the Police Department with other departments.
An Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system has been installed at a total of 50 locations across the Una, Bangana, Mehatpur, Amb, and Chintpurni areas. Each location is equipped with two ANPR cameras and two evidence-gathering cameras, creating a network of 200 cameras across these 50 sites. Furthermore, a total of 100 cameras have been installed within Una city itself. These include 30 ANPR, 60 evidence-gathering, and 10 Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras, all monitored round-the-clock from the Una Command and Control Center.
This system is not limited to law and order alone. An Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) has been installed at eight locations in the district, and vehicle-actuated speed signage has been set up at 30 locations. These systems have enhanced the effective enforcement of traffic rules, enabled monitoring of speeding vehicles, and strengthened road safety measures.
The surveillance network has also been expanded to other areas of the district; 32 cameras have been installed in Bangana and 16 in Gagret. Additionally, 200 cameras have been installed in Haroli as part of a state-of-the-art Command and Control Center, developed through the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and in coordination with the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal stated that the objective of 'Samarthya' is to develop sustainable solutions—aligned with societal needs alongside development and public welfare schemes—that directly benefit the common people. The modern technology-based surveillance system is part of this vision, helping to effectively monitor crime, strengthen law and order, and ensure road safety.
