Trump reiterates call to stop IndiaPakistan war
NEW YORK - US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim that 'peace' was established between India and Pakistan in May when he threatened the two nuclear-armed countries that he (Trump) would cancel trade agreements with them if they continued their military confrontation. Trump has repeated this claim several times since the military confrontation between India and Pakistan ended.
"In eight months, I have stopped eight wars, including Kosovo and Serbia and Congo and Rwanda, that were going on for a long time... between Pakistan and India as well," Trump said in his address at the 'America Business Forum' in Miami on Wednesday. He said, "You know, I was negotiating a trade agreement with them (India and Pakistan) and then I read on the front page of a newspaper... I heard that they were going to war. Seven planes were shot down and the eighth was badly damaged... eight planes in total.''
The US president said, ''I said, this is a war and they are moving forward with it. They are two nuclear-armed countries. I said, I will not make a trade deal with you until you agree to peace.'' Trump said to applause, ''A day later I got a call saying, 'We have made peace.'' They paused. I said, 'Thank you. Let's do trade.'' Isn't that great? Tariffs made it possible... Without tariffs, it would never have been possible.''
