Threeday book and art festival at Khalsa College Mahilpur

Mahilpur, February 27:- On the second day of the three-day book fair and art festival being organized by the Post Graduate Punjabi Department of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Mahilpur here under the auspices of the Sikh Educational Council, the audience was enthralled by various sessions of spiritual discussions, children's singing, honoring students, book public presentation and cultural singing. The day began with Shabad singing by the students of the music department.
Principal Dr. Parvinder Singh, while sharing his welcome remarks, said that there is great enthusiasm from every section of the society towards this book fair and art festival. On this occasion, a panel discussion on 'Punjabi literature related to the tragedy of Santali' was held in the first session of the day, organized with the support of Punjab Kala Parishad, on which panelist Dr. Yograj from Panjab University Chandigarh participated as the moderator. Storytellers Dr. Sanwal Dhami, Ajmer Sidhu and Bhagwant Rasulpuri participated in the panel discussion and poet Surinder Sihra (UK) chaired the session.
The speakers present in the panel discussion said that Punjabi poetry, stories and novels related to Santali have always presented human life values, which is an indicator of the pro-people nature of Punjabi literature. The organizers specially honored the writers present. Congress leader Amarpreet Singh Lali attended the afternoon session as the chief guest. He shared his memories related to student life and honored the winners of creative competitions.
In the afternoon session, retired IPS officers Gurpreet Singh Toor, Kulwant Singh Sangha, Daljit Singh Sahota and writer S Ashok Bhaura participated in the panel discussion on the topic of Punjab migration and youth. In this panel discussion, the speakers shared serious views on the trend of migration among the youth and the solutions to the challenges faced. Dr. Ishank Kumar MLA Chabbewal, who was present as the chief guest on this occasion, attended and appreciated the organizers for organizing such events.
He announced to provide assistance of five lakh rupees from his discretionary fund. On this occasion, expatriate donor Sajjan Sital Singh Ludu gave a check of two lakh rupees to the college administrators. Principal Harbhajan Singh Sporting Trust Canada Director Daljit Singh Bains gave assistance of one lakh eighty thousand rupees for the development works of the college. On this occasion, Gurjit Singh Pabla, who was present, also donated ten thousand and Principal Surjit Singh also donated eleven thousand.
In children's singing, Kamaljit Nilon captivated the audience with his popular songs. Prince Vijay Bhatti, presenting different shades of Sufi singing, took this art festival to the peak. The proceedings of the stage were conducted by Dr. Dev Kumar, Dr. J.B. Sekhon and Ja Balvir Kaur. The function was attended by the Council Secretary Prof. Apinder Singh, Treasurer Virinder Sharma, Sarpanch Kulwinder Singh Bharta, Wing Commander Hardev Singh Dhillon, Sewak Singh Bains, Prof. Ajit Langeri, Navtej Garhdiwala, Madan Veera, Resham Bedhadrak.
