Teej festival celebrated at Sikh National College Banga
Banga:- Teej festival was celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm at Sikh National College Banga. On this occasion, the students of the college and collegiate school participated enthusiastically and presented beautiful glimpses of Punjabi culture, folk traditions and heritage. This event was organized under the leadership of the Principal of the college, Dr. Indu Ratti.
The District Sports Officer, Madam Vandana Chauhan, was the chief guest and the President of the Municipal Council, Banga, Madam Monika Walia, was the special guest in this event. The College Principal, Dr. Indu Ratti, welcomed the guests with flowers and shared welcome words. He said that the aim of organizing such a cultural event by the college is to connect the students with their roots and rich heritage.
After swinging the pingh and playing the gidha, the students gave gidha, folk songs and other cultural performances related to the Teej festival, which made the event lively. The students also beautifully presented the rich cultural heritage of Punjab through Punjabi attire and traditional decorations. The traditional attire competition was judged by Dr. Kamaldeep Kaur, Dr. Sunidhi Miglani and Prof. Neelam. Local Secretary S. Jarnail Singh Pallizhiki and M. C Banga Madam Rajwinder Kaur also specially attended.
On this occasion, the chief guest Madam Vandana Chauhan paid homage to Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh and while addressing the students said that Teej is an important and ancient festival of Punjabi culture. She said that such events are an important means of connecting our young generation with our folk traditions, culture and heritage. She also motivated the students to stay away from drugs and participate in more and more sports.
Speaking as the special guest, Madam Monika Walia motivated the students to preserve their cultural heritage and pass it on to the coming generations. He highly appreciated the college for organizing such an event dedicated to Punjabi culture and also congratulated Principal Dr. Indu Ratti and all the staff for organizing such a successful program. On this occasion, the students who secured first, second and third positions in the traditional dress competition were also honored.
The stage of the event was conducted by Dr. Nirmaljit Kaur and Prof. Tajinder Singh. They kept the event interesting through their impressive presentation. The coordinator of the program, Dr. Amrit Kaur, thanked all the staff and students for their overall support for the event. To further enhance the traditional flavor of Punjabi culture, traditional Punjabi food ‘Kheer-Pood’ was also served as refreshments in this Teej event.
The students and staff enjoyed this traditional dish. Kheer-Pood revived the memories of the old Teejs of Punjabi villages in the event and made it even more memorable.
