Sydney attack shooter Indian left 27 years ago
Hyderabad: Telangana Police on Tuesday said that Sajid Akram, one of the suspects in the recent mass shooting at Australia's Bondi Beach, is originally from Hyderabad. The Telangana DGP office said in a statement that he had moved to Australia 27 years ago and had very little contact with his family in Hyderabad.
The statement said that the factors that led to the radicalisation of Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram do not appear to be linked to any local influence in India or Telangana. It said that Sajid Akram completed his B.Com studies in Hyderabad and migrated to Australia in November 1998 in search of employment.
Earlier, police raided different places and arrested two suspects in connection with the attack on Bondi Beach on Sunday. A father and son had attacked Jews on the beach. They have been identified as Sajid Akram (50), who was killed in police retaliatory fire, while his son Naveed was injured and is undergoing treatment in hospital.
Police investigations have revealed that both the father and son lived in a rented accommodation in the Sydney suburb of Campus. Police have detained two suspects from there. Sajid was a member of the ‘Recreational Firearm Club’, from where he received training in gun handling and shooting.
