Swallowed Denture Stuck in Food Pipe Removed via Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy
Khanna: Doctors at Livasa Hospital, Khanna, successfully removed a swallowed denture stuck in a patient's food pipe (esophagus) using advanced therapeutic endoscopy, avoiding the need for surgery.
A 45-year-old male patient was brought to Livasa Hospital after accidentally swallowing his denture. Following an examination, Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr. Pulkit Dhiman immediately performed an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which revealed that the denture was lodged in the mid-esophagus.
Using advanced endoscopic techniques, Dr. Dhiman carefully extracted the object using a specialized retrieval net, ensuring its safe removal without complications. The patient showed significant improvement following the procedure.
Dr. Dhiman stated, "Accidentally swallowing a denture can be a medical emergency, as it can get stuck in the food pipe and lead to serious complications such as perforation, infection, or obstruction.
Prompt medical attention and timely endoscopic treatment are crucial. With advanced therapeutic endoscopy, we can safely remove such foreign bodies in most cases, helping patients avoid major surgery and recover quickly."
