Supreme Court adjourns hearing on Kejriwal Atishis plea till April 21

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned till April 21 the hearing on the plea of ??AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi challenging the order refusing to quash the defamation case against them for their alleged comments on deletion of voters' names. The two leaders had challenged the High Court order refusing to quash the defamation case against them for their alleged comments on the deletion of 30 lakh voters of some communities from the electoral rolls.
A bench of Justices M.M. Sundaresh and N.K. Singh adjourned the matter, saying that a detailed hearing was required on the matter.
Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju said that the defamation in this regard is related to a political party, which has authorized the complainant to file a petition on its behalf. The Supreme Court, while issuing notice to the complainant Rajiv Babbar on September 30, 2024, had stayed the proceedings in the trial court. The top court had said that the legal question was whether the complainant or the political party would fall within the definition of aggrieved persons under Section 199 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
