Students set campus on fire over bad water and food

SEHORE (MP):- In Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district, VIT students staged a violent protest over allegedly bad food and water quality. The students claim that they are suffering from jaundice. During the protest, they vandalised the college campus and vehicles and set them on fire.
According to eyewitnesses and videos circulated on social media, a bus, two four-wheelers, an ambulance, hostel window panes, an RO plant and other parts of the campus were damaged in the arson that took place late on Tuesday night.
A police official said that around 3,000 to 4,000 students protested over the quality of food and water at the Sehore campus of Vellore Institute of Technology. He said that on receiving information, police sub-division officers of Ashta and security personnel from several police stations reached the college campus.
The staff had a detailed interaction with the students, listened to their concerns and assured them of necessary action to resolve the issues. Ashta SDOP Akash Amalkar said that the situation in the college and hostel campus is currently under control. Officials said that sufficient police force has been deployed in the campus and the situation is being monitored continuously.
Meanwhile, the college management has declared a holiday till November 30. Sehore Superintendent of Police Deepak Shukla said that the situation is normal at present. He added that VIT has declared a holiday till November 30 and some students are going back home.
