Karnal, November 28: A meeting regarding compliance with the Supreme Court's orders regarding stray dogs was held today at the District Secretariat under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to immediately begin the sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs in the district.
He said that in urban areas, this work should be initiated with the cooperation of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, or Municipality, and in villages, with the cooperation of Panchayati Raj institutions and officials of the Animal Husbandry Department.
In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed Health Department officials to maintain adequate stock of rabies vaccines. He also asked them to identify areas reporting the highest number of dog bite cases. Any employee found feeding stray dogs on the premises of these institutions should be issued a notice. Municipal Corporation officials were asked to register those who keep dogs at home so that it can be ascertained how many pet dogs there are apart from stray dogs.
