Sri Anandpur Sahib Illegal mining in Sutlej poses a threat to Agampur bridge
Ropar:- The indiscriminate illegal mining going on inside the Sutlej river in the border areas of Sri Anandpur Sahib and Ropar has taken a serious turn. Mining department officials have registered a written complaint with the police and warned that the foundations of the bridge are weakening due to the excavation going on near Agampur bridge, which can lead to a major accident at any time.
According to the report of the Water Resources Department, the bridge is already under pressure due to the recent floods and now illegal mining can completely destroy its structure.
The residents of the area allege that the mining mafia had also built an illegal temporary bridge on the river to steal sand at night, which was demolished by the angry villagers themselves. This issue has now also taken a political turn. AAP MLA Dinesh Chadha from Ropar reached the spot and supported the people and demanded action against those who built the illegal bridge.
He expressed surprise that how such a huge illegal structure came up under the nose of the administration. On the other hand, local farmers say that their fields are being eroded due to heavy machinery and village roads have been damaged.
Although the mining inspector has recommended action under the Mining Act against the unidentified landowners, the victims say that no concrete action has been taken by the police so far.
