Speeding car hits erickshaw family woman and 10yearold girl die
Jalandhar:- A Fortuner car crushed a grandmother and granddaughter in Jalandhar after 12 midnight. Both died on the spot. The family was returning home in an e-rickshaw when the vehicle hit them from behind. The police arrested the accused driver and took him to the police station, after which a ruckus broke out. The victim’s family alleged that the accused was drunk and could not even drive the vehicle. When the accused was not medically examined by 3 am, the victims created a ruckus outside the police station.
The deceased girl’s aunt Seema said that her mother and niece had died in the accident and her brother’s heart was broken, but the police were trying to save the accused who was drunk. When the family reached the police station, the police closed the gate and locked it from inside. When asked about the lockout, SHO of Basti Bawa Khel police station Jai Inder said that the lockout was imposed to prevent public protest.
After the public uproar, the police got the accused medically examined after 3 am. The police said that they are recording the statement of the accused and strict action will be taken against him. People gathered at the spot said that the Fortuner car was speeding. The car first hit an e-rickshaw and then hit a pole.
People said that the Fortuner driver was unconscious and after the collision, he climbed on the people who fell from the e-rickshaw. A 10-year-old girl fell on the road and was crushed, due to which she died on the spot.
