Special training will be given to Village Defense Committees Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal
Hoshiarpur- Lok Sabha member Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is taking concrete steps to make the state 'Rangla Punjab' again. Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched against drugs, the Nasha Mukti Morcha is uniting people in villages, towns and cities, so that this evil can be completely eradicated from the society. He was addressing an important meeting of the representatives and officers of the Nasha Mukti Morcha at the District Administrative Complex today.
He said that to make this campaign more effective, special training will be given to the Gram Raksha Committees of the district, so that they can play a more active role in eradicating drug addiction in their respective areas. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik were also present with him.
Dr. Chabbewal said that due to the strict policy of Chief Minister Mann, Punjab has become a state not only in the country but also in the whole world, where the most comprehensive and concrete action is being taken against drugs. He said that so far 21 thousand FIRs have been registered in the state and more than 34 thousand drug peddlers have been sent behind bars. He also said that the 97 percent conviction rate in these cases shows the determination of the government and the seriousness of judicial action.
The Lok Sabha member said that the demolition and seizure of illegal properties of drug traffickers has created an atmosphere of fear among the traffickers. He said that the Hoshiarpur district administration is not only tightening the noose on drug traffickers but is also taking concrete steps for the rehabilitation of drug addicted youth. He specifically said that the Hoshiarpur rehabilitation center has emerged as the largest and most effective in the entire state.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the district administration is working in collaboration with the civil and police departments. With the support of the society, the campaign is getting significant success. He further said that to intensify the rehabilitation efforts, the bed capacity in the de-addiction centers of the district has been increased to 500 beds.
There, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that 1,000 FIRs have been registered in the district so far, and 1,200 accused have been arrested. Apart from this, property worth more than Rs 12 crore has been seized (frozen).
On this occasion, Doaba Zone Coordinator of the Drug Detoxification Morcha, Nayan Chhabra, said that the morcha is going from village to village and making people aware of the ill effects of drugs. He said that the maximum action has been taken in the entire state in Hoshiarpur district, which is a testament to the commitment of the administration. He also gave detailed information about the training being conducted by the Village Protection Committee to the representatives of the Drug Detoxification Morcha.
District Coordinator of the Drug Detoxification Morcha, Satwant Singh Sian, also addressed the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nicas Kumar, SP Manpreet Shimar, all SDMs and other officers were also present.
