Special HPV vaccination campaign to prevent cervical cancer in Una
Una, February 17: Deputy Commissioner, Una, Jatin Lal, announced that a special vaccination campaign will be conducted in the district from March 29th to June 21st to prevent the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and the serious disease known as cervical cancer. He provided this information while presiding over a meeting of the District Task Force constituted for the HPV vaccination campaign held at the District Chief Medical Officer's office on Tuesday. The meeting discussed in detail the campaign strategy, identification of the target age group, the registration process, and coordination between various departments.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that adolescent girls aged 14 to 15 years will be vaccinated under this campaign. Prior to the campaign, house-to-house registration of all government and private schools and migrant worker families will be completed by March 10th, and online registration will be completed by March 20th.
He stated that HPV infection is a major cause of cervical cancer, and timely vaccination can significantly reduce the risk.
He placed special emphasis on public awareness regarding the campaign. He urged the coordination of various departments to conduct extensive awareness activities to ensure vaccination of every eligible adolescent girl in the targeted age group.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the cooperation of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, self-help groups, and Panchayati Raj institutions would be sought to ensure the success of the campaign. The Education Department was also directed to organize parent meetings in schools to educate parents about HPV infection and the importance of vaccination, so that as many eligible adolescent girls as possible can benefit from this campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all parents to help protect their daughters from serious diseases by ensuring their timely vaccination.
Meanwhile, CMO Dr. Sanjeev Verma stated that Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common infections globally. If not prevented in time, this virus can lead to serious diseases such as cervical cancer. He stated that HPV-related diseases can be effectively prevented through timely vaccination, safe practices, regular screenings, and widespread public awareness.
He stated that vaccinations will not be administered on an empty stomach, and adolescent girls will be kept under observation for half an hour after vaccination to ensure immediate medical attention is provided in case of any potential adverse reactions. **National Deworming Week to be observed from February 23rd to 28th**
The Deputy Commissioner informed that National Deworming Week will be observed in Una district from February 23rd to 28th. During this period, a target has been set to administer deworming medication to 153,544 children in the district. Additionally, a target has been set to provide vitamin A supplements to 41,358 children to improve their health and nutrition.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Richa, District Panchayat Officer Shravan Kumar, District Language Officer Nikuram, and other officials were present on the occasion.
