Sangrur, June 8:- In compliance with the instructions issued by the Department of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, Punjab, and under the leadership of District Program Officer, Sangrur, Pradeep Singh Gill, an Anti-Begging Task Team conducted a special inspection drive at various public locations in Sangrur city. The drive covered the bus stand, Qila Market, Chota and Vada Chowk, Kila Park, Main Bazaar, and other prominent public places. The inspection team included Harjinder Singh from the Education Department, ASI Harish Kumar from the Police Department, Dr. Bhavesh from the Health Department, and Gagandeep Garg and Rupinder Singh from the District Child Protection Office, Sangrur.
During the checking, a child was found begging at the Sangrur bus stand. Assessing the child's situation, the team took the necessary action according to the rules, prioritizing the child's safety and welfare. Furthermore, the public present at these locations was educated about the eradication of child begging, the protection of children's rights, and available child protection services.
The team appealed to the general public that if any child is seen begging, found abandoned, destitute, or in any crisis situation, they should immediately contact the Child Helpline at 1098 or reach out to the nearest police administration. This ensures that the child receives timely protection and rehabilitation services.
The district administration and the District Child Protection Unit stated that such inspection and awareness activities will be continued regularly to prevent the practice of child begging and to protect the best interests of children.
