Snowfall in Kashmir Temperatures soar

Srinagar: Kashmir experienced warmer-than-expected minimum temperatures for the second consecutive night as the mercury remained above freezing in most parts of the valley. Officials said the increase in minimum temperatures was due to cloud cover last night and fresh snowfall in some higher reaches on Sunday.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled at 1.9 degrees Celsius, marginally lower than Saturday night's 2 degrees Celsius but nearly five notches higher than the previous nights.
The minimum temperature was 3.1 degrees above the season's average, officials said. The Meteorological Department said dense fog prevailed in most other parts of the city and the valley, especially around water bodies, in the morning.
The minimum temperature in Qazigund in south Kashmir was 2.2 degrees Celsius, while in Kupwara in north Kashmir it was 1.6 degrees Celsius. Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius.
