Sikh National College Chemistry Department organizes National Science Day and Speech Competitions

Banga/Nawanshahr:- National Science Day was celebrated on 28th February 2026 at Sikh National College Banga under the leadership of Principal Tarsem Singh Bhinder and with the efforts of the Chemistry Department. It is worth mentioning that National Science Day is celebrated in memory of the invaluable contribution made to science by India's great scientist and Nobel Prize winner Dr. C.V. Raman.
Giving information, Dr. Amrit Kaur, Head of the Chemistry Department, said that speech competitions have been organized for the students to develop scientific temper among the students. The students prepared speeches on topics like chemistry of colors, forensic chemistry, scientific temperament, current state of Indian research. The students of the Chemistry Department participated enthusiastically in these speech competitions.
Out of these speech competitions, Baljit Singh, a student of B.Sc. Medical Semester IV, stood first. Deepinder Bal, a student of B.Sc. Non-Medical, semester 6, stood second and Mandeep Kaur, a student of B.Sc. Non-Medical, semester 4, stood third. Prizes and certificates were distributed to these students by Principal Tarsem Singh Bhinder.
Addressing the students on this occasion, Principal Tarsem Singh Bhinder said that these efforts made by the Chemistry Department will take the scientific thinking of the students to a more subtle and mature level. He also congratulated the Head of the Department, Dr. Amrit Kaur and Dr. Jyoti Prakash from the Department for the success of this sincere effort. He said that Dr. CV Raman has a special place in Indian research.
He brought glory to the country by winning the Nobel Prize in 1930. Science takes us from curiosity to invention and nation building. So the role models of the students should be like Dr. CV Raman so that the nation can be built on scientific principles. On this occasion, Baljinder Singh, Madam Seema and a large number of students from the Chemistry Department were present in these speech competitions.
