SGPC President Joins Punjab University Bachao Morcha
Chandigarh, November 7 - Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami today joined the "Save Punjab University" Morcha organized by students at Punjab University, Chandigarh, and announced his full support to the Morcha's gathering on November 10. Advocate Dhami stated that Punjab University, Chandigarh, is our heritage, having played a significant role in the development of culture and the Punjabi language.
He stated that the university's hallmark is that its Senate and Syndicate are elected through a democratic process from various sectors. He stated that the government secretly wants to completely subjugate Punjab by eliminating its traditions, which is an injustice to Punjab. The SGPC will continue to represent the rights and interests of Punjab in this matter and will cooperate at every level in the struggle.
He stated that the SGPC will fully participate in the gathering to be held on November 10 and will make necessary arrangements. He said that this is a matter of Punjab's rights, and it is the responsibility of every Punjabi and organization to join this struggle. The SGPC president added that the SGPC recently passed a resolution in its general session against this injustice by the government and demanded an immediate halt to such actions.
He said that student organizations are fighting against this injustice, which he fully supports and will continue to do so. Advocate Dhami appealed to the people of Punjab and political parties to come forward and join the students' struggle to save the heritage of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Present on the occasion were SGPC interim member Bibi Harjinder Kaur, members Ajmer Singh Khera and Charanjit Singh Kalewal, Secretary Engineer Sukhminder Singh, Deputy Secretary Lakhbir Singh, Akali leader Sandeep Singh Sikri, and Sukhwinder Singh, manager of Gurdwara Bagh Shaheedan Chandigarh.
