Senior Akali Leader Harjit Singh Matharu Joins BJP

Hoshiarpur: Former Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sud stated that ahead of the Municipal Corporation elections, a large number of people from various political parties are joining the BJP after being influenced by its people-centric policies.
He said that a look at the city's development history clearly shows that several major projects were implemented in Hoshiarpur during BJP-led governments. These included the extension of sewerage and drinking water facilities to almost every household, as well as landmark projects such as the new bus stand, Mini Secretariat, Municipal Corporation building, and the Nara and Pariparia dams. He added that under BJP's administration, the city witnessed significant improvements in roads, streets, drinking water supply, sanitation, and street lighting.
Tikshan Sud remarked that people prefer politics focused on development. Criticizing the current Punjab government, he alleged that its achievements are largely confined to advertisements rather than visible ground-level work.
Amid these developments, Harjit Singh Matharu, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, former District President of the Backward Classes Wing, and Doaba In-charge, formally joined the BJP. The joining ceremony took place in the presence of senior BJP leaders including Tikshan Sud, Nipun Sharma, Meenu Sethi, Sanju Arora, Harmanjeet Singh Walia, Neelam Rana, former councillor Ashok Kumar, Mahinder Pal Dhiman, and Ravinder Singh Chadda, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Harjit Singh Matharu said that he had joined the BJP after being impressed by the policies and work of the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that he aims to contribute towards the welfare and development of Punjab through the BJP.
Welcoming Matharu into the party, BJP leaders assured him of full respect and recognition within the organization. They expressed confidence that his political experience, social influence, and public support would further strengthen the BJP in the region.
