Save Elante Citizens Emotional Appeal to Protect Chandigarhs Pride

Chandigarh, November 4: The UT administration's decision to take action against Elante Mall has caused deep disappointment and dissatisfaction among the city's citizens. Protesting this decision, Prem Garg, a renowned chartered accountant, has made an emotional appeal to the administration: "Save Elante, save Chandigarh's pride."
Prem Garg says that Elante Mall is not just a shopping center, but has become the cultural, social, and economic heartbeat of Chandigarh. It is one of the most beautiful, well-organized, and clean commercial destinations in North India, giving the city its modern identity.
He said that when citizens are already suffering from administrative chaos, the administration's focus on taking action against the only well-organized mall is not only disappointing but also unjust. "Elante has never encroached on any government land nor caused any inconvenience to anyone," he said.
The mall contributes crores of rupees in GST every month and provides direct and indirect employment to thousands of people. Furthermore, many multinational companies, corporate offices, and foreign embassies operate from here, making it not only a business hub but also a major tourist and investment destination.
Garg stated that if the mall management has made some minor improvements within its premises for public convenience, it is unfair to label them as "violations." He also suggested that if the administration truly wants to crack down on illegal constructions, it should start with areas under its control, such as unauthorized structures and food stalls in the Sukhna Lake complex.
He warned that such selective action raises questions about the administration's impartiality and undermines public trust. The Elante Mall has now become a major tourist and investment attraction in North India, and damaging it would undermine both Chandigarh's modern image and economic reputation.
Prem Garg concluded with a humble request to the administration: "We all have sentiments attached to Elante. It's not just a building, it's the pride of Chandigarh. Please reconsider this decision and don't demolish any part of this beautiful property. It's our duty to save it."
