Satara doctor commits suicide Accused named in suicide note arrested from Pune
Chandigarh- A 26-year-old female doctor from Maharashtra's Satara district, who committed suicide earlier this week, has left behind a four-page letter. The letter, which details shocking details of alleged sexual assault, harassment and corruption, has been revealed. The police on Saturday arrested an accused banker from Pune in the case.
The doctor, who was serving as a medical officer at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital, has accused Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne of raping her four times and mentally and physically torturing her for over five months. Before taking her own life, she had written on her hand that Badne had raped her.
Pressure for fake certificates
In his suicide note, the doctor also alleged that several police officers (even an MP along with his personal assistants) pressured him to issue fake fitness certificates for accused who were never brought for medical examination. He claimed that when he refused, he was harassed and intimidated.
The 26-year-old doctor, who had been serving in a rural hospital for almost two years, was just a month away from completing her mandatory bond and was planning to pursue a postgraduate medical degree.
Her cousin told NDTV that she had lodged complaints several times, written to the SP and DSP, but no action was taken. “He had clearly mentioned that if anything happens to her, those responsible should be held accountable,” he said. The doctor’s letter also mentions harassment by her landlord, Prashant Bankar.
