Sarpanch Besieged in Power Struggle Panchayat Members Launch Revolt

Karnal, March 26: A major administrative dispute at the Panchayat level has surfaced in the village of Ranwar, Karnal district. Panchayat members have submitted a no-confidence motion to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) against the suspended Sarpanch, demanding the appointment of a new Acting Sarpanch. The members (Panchs) assert that, under the current circumstances, the village's development has come to a complete standstill, and sanitation conditions have deteriorated significantly.
A total of 10 Panchayat members—including Sandeep Kumar—arrived at the DC's office and submitted a written resolution against Sarpanch Narendra Kumar. They claim that two other members also support their stance, and that the entire quorum is in favor of removing the Sarpanch.
According to the members, allegations of corruption had previously been leveled against Narendra Kumar. In connection with this matter, the district administration had directed him to appear at the office along with relevant records; however, he failed to appear. Consequently, in September, the DC suspended him, and an Acting Sarpanch was appointed to ensure the continued functioning of the Panchayat.
Some time later, Narendra Kumar returned after obtaining a stay order from the High Court, a development that further complicated the administrative situation within the village. The members state that, effectively, no Sarpanch is currently functioning in the village, causing development works to suffer severely.
The village's sanitation system has also ground to a complete halt; dirty water has accumulated in the streets, and piles of garbage have accumulated in several areas. The members have urged the DC to permanently remove the suspended Sarpanch and appoint a new Acting Sarpanch as soon as possible to restore order and improve conditions within the village.
