Revision of Welfare Scheme Rates for ExServicemen in Chandigarh

Chandigarh- To recognize the invaluable services provided by the Armed Forces, the Government of India had decided on 7 December to observe Armed Forces Flag Day. Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated every year on 7 December, and citizens are appealed to contribute generously to the fund. It is an occasion when citizens of the country demonstrate their solidarity with the Armed Forces by wearing flags on their clothing and contributing to the Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) Fund.
The funds collected from the citizens of Chandigarh, all government offices, schools, colleges, and other offices under the Chandigarh Administration, including students and employees, are used for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families who are in urgent need of financial assistance. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, DC-cum-Chairman, ZSB, Chandigarh recommended revising the rates of welfare schemes from ?1,200 per month to ?3,000 per month. The Deputy Commissioner said that this increase in rates would go a long way in assisting needy ex-servicemen (ESM) and their children, as the last revision of the rates under the AFFD fund was in April 2013.
Regarding the revision of welfare scheme rates, a notification has been issued by the Chandigarh Administration, Home Department through Notification No. 568758-HII (3)-2026 dated 06.03.2026.
The initiation of the new scheme was proposed by Colonel H.S. Ghuman (Retd.), District Soldier Welfare Officer, Chandigarh, after receiving feedback from ex-servicemen in Chandigarh, to provide monthly financial assistance to ex-servicemen’s children who are over 75% physically disabled and unable to earn a livelihood. It is heartening for children of physically disabled ex-servicemen that the Chandigarh Administration has launched this new scheme.
Under the recently launched welfare scheme, eligible candidates can contact the District Soldier Welfare Office, Chandigarh, and apply accordingly.
