Patiala:- On the occasion of Republic Day recently, renowned social worker and President of Gyan Jyoti Education Society (Regd.) Patiala, Upkar Singh was honoured by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains in view of his exceptional services in various fields of social service. Upkar Singh has basically retired as an officer from the Punjab Education Department. He got the idea of ??social service from his father Late Bhai Gyan Singh in his childhood.
His father was a great scholar of Gurbani and a social worker. Following the same ancestral beliefs, Mr. Upkar Singh registered a society in the name of his father and started providing services in various fields of social service. Till now, his society has organized hundreds of medical checkups, blood donation and environment conservation camps.
Apart from this, providing writing materials and uniforms to needy and talented children, making people aware about environmental conservation, creating awareness about preventing foeticide, planting trees in public places, making the youth aware about drug abuse, organizing seminars/lectures on healthy living, providing information about traffic rules to students and the general public, encouraging people about the use of jute/cloth bags and organizing plays and seminars on issues related to social awareness are the unique functions of this society.
Apart from this, every year, under the leadership of Mr. Upkar Singh, the society honors personalities who have done unique work in various fields of social service on the occasion of International Women's Day and International Teachers' Day. So far, hundreds of personalities have been honored by this society. For the last few years, a mini marathon race has also been organized by AAP on the occasion of Constitution Day on 26th November.
During the floods last year, the society, under the leadership of Mr. Upkar Singh, went to the villages and distributed materials worth lakhs of rupees to the needy. The society organizes programs on important days besides the martyrdom day of the martyrs. The biggest thing is that this work of social service is done by Mr. Upkar Singh without any government assistance and with the help of private and society members.
In today's materialistic era, Mr. Upkar Singh is a great example of dedication to other people in the society. Honoring such a Karma Yogi is actually to give respect to his achievements in the field of social service, which will also inspire other people in the society.
