Ravneet Bittu writes to CM Bhagwant Mann over delay in railway projects
New Delhi:- Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu has written to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann seeking his personal intervention to expedite the resolution of pending issues with the state government, which is delaying several important railway infrastructure projects across Punjab.
In his letter, Bittu stressed that timely completion of these projects is of importance to both the country and the state, as they will strengthen rail connectivity, improve passenger and freight movement, boost industrial and regional development, enhance logistics, generate employment and contribute to the overall economic development of Punjab.
Bittu highlighted that despite the Centre’s commitment to strengthen railway infrastructure in Punjab, many projects are stalled due to pending land acquisition, legal approvals and administrative clearances at the state government level.
The key projects highlighted in the letter include: Ferozepur-Patti New Rail Line Project. This 25.72 km long rail line requires acquisition of 165.69 hectares of land in Ferozepur and Tarn Taran districts. Although the Railway Ministry had deposited the entire land acquisition amount of Rs 194.11 crore with the Punjab government in December 2025, possession of the acquired land has not been handed over yet, due to which the construction work could not start.
Rajpura-Mohali New Rail Line Project: The 18.11 km long rail line is facing continuous delays due to pending land acquisition in Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar districts. Bittu has requested that the land acquisition process be completed on priority basis to complete the project on time.
Nangal Dam-Talwara-Mukerian New Rail Line Project: While Phase-II forest clearance has already been obtained for two proposals, final clearance for the remaining proposals is pending due to approval of Wildlife Mitigation Plan by the Chief Wildlife Warden, Punjab. Railways had submitted the Integrated Wildlife Mitigation Plan on June 16, 2026, and early clearance is essential to obtain final forest clearance and take the project forward.
Raman Mandi-Sadd Singhwala New Rail Line Project: This project, which is part of the Mansa-Bathinda Doubling Project, requires acquisition of 192.42 hectares of land in Mansa and Bathinda districts. Bittu urged the Punjab government to expedite the land acquisition process.
The Minister also drew attention to the delays affecting several Road Over Bridge (ROB) and Limited Height Subway (LHS) projects across Punjab due to pending land acquisition issues, delayed co-operation NOCs, road closure approvals, traffic diversion permissions and other administrative approvals.
He also informed that projects in Ludhiana, Fazilka, Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, Bathinda, Jalandhar and Pathankot are awaiting approvals from various district authorities and departments, resulting in unnecessary delay in implementation.
Appealing to the Chief Minister for immediate intervention, Bittu requested that appropriate instructions be issued to all concerned departments and district authorities to give highest priority to resolving the pending issues so that these long-awaited railway infrastructure projects can be completed in the shortest possible time.
