Railway Ministry announces fare hike
New Delhi: The Railway Ministry on Sunday announced a hike in train ticket prices. Under this, the fare has been increased by 1 paise per kilometre in general class for journeys of more than 215 km and by 2 paise per kilometre for non-AC categories of mail/express trains and AC categories of all trains.
These new rates will be applicable from December 26, 2025. Officials said, "There has been no increase in the fare for monthly season tickets of suburban (suburban) trains and general class of other trains for journeys up to 215 km."
They further said that this increase in fares will earn the Railways Rs 600 crore by March 31, 2026. According to the Railway Ministry, the last fare hike in July 2025 has collected a revenue of Rs 700 crore so far.
