Punjab Warriors Football Club Edmonton organizes fair
Edmonton:- The Punjab Warriors Football Club organized its grand 10th annual two-day soccer tournament and a 'Teeyan da Mela' (women's cultural festival) at the famous location 2704 17 Street Northwest, Edmonton, Canada. The main organizers of the fair were Bhupinder Singh Sangha, Davinder Singh Rai, and Harry Deol. The 'Teeyan' festival was successfully conducted by Ammandeep Kaur, Palwinder Kaur, and Surjit Kaur Dhaliwal.
The club has provided training to approximately 400 children. About nine teams participated in the football match, with an exciting final between Punjab Warriors A and Punjab Warriors B, where Punjab Warriors B emerged as the winner.
Nearly 500 Punjabi women participated in the 'Teeyan da Mela'. Dressed in traditional Punjabi attire, the women created an atmosphere reminiscent of Punjab itself. They celebrated with Gidda, boliyan, tappas, mahiay, and folk songs, radiating the true essence of Punjabi culture. The event also included activities like musical chairs, lucky draws, races, and other competitions.
The tournament saw the participation of 250 children from the Punjab Warriors Academy in Alberta and BC. Special attractions included exhibition matches, volleyball, golf hockey, weightlifting, children’s races, card games (Seep), and a variety of delicious traditional snacks. The organizers stated that the Punjab Warriors Football Club has been dedicated to serving the community for the last 20 years, with over 15 teams currently playing in various leagues.
Winners of the women's races were awarded across different age groups, ranging from 20 to over 70 years of age. Prizes were also distributed for the lemon race and musical chairs. At the end of the event, winners were honored with trophies and mementos by the organizers and sponsors. Several prominent personalities, including writers, journalists, and community figures like Professor Dalbir Singh Riyar and others, attended the memorable event.
